Opium Wars - Imperialism in China

Align Center
The Opium war was during the Imperialism in China..The western Europeans were looking places to get raw materials, trying to find new resources. In China, they've found their tea and they liked it. The British only had one port in China. The British didn't like it, so they decided to trade Opium to the Chinese people for their tea.Its started because the British wanted the Chinese tea and they started to give the Chinese Opium because it was addictive and so they would want more, they would make them give them tea for opium. in 1838 the Chinese government told the British that they didn't want anymore opium because of the addictive people and deaths caused by it, 2 years after the opium war started, but the British had better technology so they won against the Chinese. so the British made the Chinese people to sign the "Treaty of Nanjing, that permitted the British to move more easily things around china. in 1856 the second opium war began and once again the British won.

Film Lesson: "Mountains of the Moon"

The movie is about two explorers called Richard Burton and John Speke, they were part of the Royal Geographic Society who were in that time trying to map the world, Richard and John went to Africa to find the source of Nile river, on their first try they were attacked by a group of native Africans who killed most of the people they went with as guides so they retrieved back to England, on their second coming of Africa they went even deeper on over 173 days walking down Africa to find the source of the Nile river. The Europeans had a hard experience in Africa because the type of weather and type of bugs and different animals that were dangerous another basic problem they had was the language of the continent also there were sicknesses in the continent which in England didn't have cure yet such as malaria's sickness. It is strange that the source of the Nile river is lake Victoria the name of the queen of England. it is strange because until now in century 21 is still called lake Victoria in the continent in Africa which is far away from England. The technological advance that the Europeans had over the native Africans was that they had guns and better weapons than an native African because it was like guns vs spears, so in the end the Europeans conquered Africa because of the guns they used to win it over.

Imperialism Project

In this project i learned that many of the countries that we know today weren't countries yet but where used like just resource to the Europeans, that they were not interested on making contact with different civilisations they just wanted to get raw materials that seemed nice to them and bring them back to their contrie and sell the goods they found, also most of the land they found that could be use full to them they would of named theirs so no one could get around them, and in the now adays, the people of those are adapted the language and ways of living and belief, like for example most of Central and South America were found and controlled by Spain, and in Spain they spoked Spanish, the society were most Roman Catholic, so now in the 21st Century those lands adapted the language and the beliefs, All the land that the Europeans found they just wanted to control so that no one else could have had the goods and items that could only be found in in those certain places so now they had their indecency. the European countries had routes that went to those places, they wanted spices from the islands of Indonesia and they wanted cheaper value because the middle man always raised the value at least for 3 times its value so the Europeans wanted to get rid of the middleman and get they did by getting the spices or goods themselves.

Karl Marx and Communism

Karl marx was the inventor of communism.Karl Marx's idea of Communism is about how one whole state controls everything. Like your property, ownership, and government. His idea of Communism is making everything revolve to one. He wanted everyone to be equal especially during the Industrial Revolution. He thought that Capitalism was a bad idea and it was Evil. He saw the Capitalist as the bad guys. He didn't like how some workers are treated in the factory. He found it unfair that some people get higher wages than the other, so he thought that maybe it would be easier if everyone was paid the same even if some are in high or low positions. He wanted to share one whole wealth to everyone. He was also mainly involve with economics, political - science, history, and also philosophy. He wanted Communist to take over the world because he thinks it'll unite everyone. Though, the Soviet Union's government was strict and forced everyone to work.

Karl Marx and The Industrial Revolution

Karl Marx felt that the Industrial Revolution was bad. He did not like the way the workers were being treated and how the factories were dangerous place to be in. Karl Marx did not support the Industrial Revolution. Since the factories were all so dangerous, Karl Marx fought to get the right for workers to be the ones to control the factories not the landlords. Karl Marx wanted the Industrial Revolution to work in a different way but what he wanted more was for the places to work were more safe at least. Karl Marx also didn't like the idea of kids working in the factories with them getting no breaks and working in unsafe places. While the children should be getting an education in schools and not in factories that weren't safe and working. Also while working so many hours they didn't get payed much that was worth all of their effort and also the time they wasted in school ours. The landlords got all the luxury while the people who worked hard and many hours didn't, which wasn't fair. Karl Marx didn't like this anymore and invented Communism. Where everyone would share the money that was being earned. They would all earn the same no matter what their job was and Karl Marx thought that was a better way to have the society going. Karl Marx had his own idea and opinion like everyone else. There were some that agreed and some that didn't, Karl Marx was one that did not agree and made Communism so that everyone could have a fair share of the pie.

Nationalism and the Creation of Italy

Nationalism is what people feel when they see stars and stripes blowing in the wind,is when their in a unique distant place from their nation and they hear their nations name and feel proud or when you meet someone from the same nation in a distant place from home. it is also when you support troops. i show nationalism when i say the national anthem of my country also when i speak English in another nation most people can recognize the language and when i use my currency in other nations, for example in the middle east of Asia,Europe and parts of Africa. you would consider people to be Muslim, Hindu and in Jerusalem most people are Jews, its kind off a stereotype but most people recognize them as a nation, and they are okay with it and they like their nationalism.

The the nation of Italy, nationalism grew out of the French Revolution. Long ago, Italy used to be part of the Austria-Hungary empire. Italy started to become very influenced by other countries who started to declare their independence. When Italy declared their independence, they had a war of independence. They named their nation and they slowly fell apart form the Austria-Hungary Empire. Then, they made their own Italian flag.

John Locke and "The Enlightenment"

Many people from the enlightenment thinkers. A man John Locke that meant a lot in the enlightenment. Thomas Jefferson was inspired by John Locke and made rights. Jefferson's rights were life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Those rights are on still this very day. The rights are making everything better for everyone. The Democracy is working good and nobody is going against the rights that Jefferson has made. In the democracy there are the president, vice president, governments, and senators.

The government would get its power by the people. The people were the ones who mostly picked the decisions. The government aren't the only ones who makes the decisions they have people who also make the decisions. Its not like how it was when Kings were the only ones in charge. Now its more then no one would have too much power and over rule the land or country. There are people behind and in front, they have decisions now to make a new law or choices to be made. No one have too much power. The Enlightenment Thinkers gave people like Thomas Jefferson the idea to make these changes and make a democracy. So that the people can also have a right because before there wasent enough consideration of the 3rd class, Now most of the decisions are made by the upper levels because of the 3rd state.

Copernicus and the trial of Galileo

The theory of church came first as civilization grew and grew to a more complex understanding of the world as they said that everything in the universe moves around Earth. This was the Geocentric theory was when most of the beliefs in the world were about church it took 1,800 years for people such as Galileo and Nicolaus known as Copernicus. People that have stood up to the beliefs of the church about facing the "facts" about the existence of humans and all living things.

Nicolaus Copernicus was the first astronomer to display the theory to the world called heliocentric. the heliocentric theory was mostly about that the sun was in the middle of the universe and Earth was rotating around it. Galileo Galilei made a book explaining things about physics and astronomy that went against all beliefs of the church and the pope at that time Urban went by the scripture which had said that the earth is in the center of the universe. They had put Galileo on trial for writing a book about the sun being in the center of the universe and going against the scripture of the church. Galileo couldn't publish the book and had to say that the earth was in the center while still knowing it wasn't. It was either that or they would of killed him. The church and Galileo had different thoughts about whether the sun was in the center or the earth was.

Aristotle had a theory that heavy things fall faster than ligther things, many people believed that till someone named Galileo tried testing this theory after many years after Aristotle said it. Galileo went to the top of the Tower of Pisa and proved Aristotle wrong after he saw that different weigthed objects land and different rates. years after that issac newton gave to history the thoerys of gravity and laws of physics.

Evolution Vs. Creation

Evolution
The theory of Evolution was said by Charles Darwin. He said that all most everything that had organism was created by evolving from state to state but always keeping the main structure of life. The only change that it had was some mutations but it kept the original form of life till it turn out to be main basics of life. Charles Darwin wasn't the first one to put this idea in the world,Ancient Greek philosophers had an idea about the theory about evolution. They saw it mostly on animals on how can a bird develop wings and learn how to fly,Dolphins and whales and many other sea creatures developed blowholes to learn how to breath oxygen and swim under water and manage to keep that oxygen for a while underwater without drowning. Most scientist believe that the closest prestoric animal that humans evolved from were animals such as Gorillas,Monkeys and Apes.

Creationism

Creationism is the religious beliefs, it explains on how there's a mighty being that has the power to say and judge us humans on how to behave and to do with our life's. He tells us this by ancient books called bibles and those books tell us on what he would of want from us to live life.Creationism is mostly about people believing that there's an afterlife that there's a code for living life in a way such as that everything we do in life is going to come back to us on our deaths. Because the only fact about all humans is that we will all at some point die. Creationism makes humans to try to not think as a death as an end. it makes us believe that the more good we are as humans the best we are gonna live in an afterlife. There are many religions in the world that indicate the same thing about a mighty being that will help us when we are in need, that it will forgive us so we can be a better person in this life.

I was raised in a Catholic family therefore i am a catholic but somehow i can relate more to Evolution that Creationism because Evolution to me makes sense, i am that kind of person that has to see to believe and being in church sounds to me lame because Ive noticed that many humans want answers and they cant find them and they are so desperate to find answers that they believe whatever catches their attention until they actually start to believe it. i think that if you put a person that has never been in society into society they will most likely believe in Evolution because it makes sense. Creationism is to complicated and personally i would just choose Evolution over Creationism.
